Midwest Generation is an independent power producer operating six major power plants in Illinois.
Headquartered in Chicago, the company has about 1,100 Illinois employees and can generate enough electricity to meet the needs of nearly 7 million homes. Its plants are located in Chicago, Waukegan, Joliet, Romeoville and Pekin.
Midwest Generation produces electricity to sell to utilities and other parties in the competitive, wholesale market. Since acquiring its Illinois facilities in 1999, the company has undertaken a series of major projects to reduce air emissions from coal-fired electric power generation, including one of the nation’s first installations of mercury emissions controls in 2008.
