MidAmerican Energy Company, one of the largest energy companies in the Midwest, is part of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, a global provider of energy services. Through its energy-related businesses, Berkshire Hathaway Energy provides electric and natural gas service to more than 11.5 million customers and end-users worldwide. These businesses are Pacific Power, Rocky Mountain Power and PacifiCorp Energy, comprising PacifiCorp; MidAmerican Energy Company; NV Energy; Northern Powergrid Holding Company; Northern Natural Gas Company; Kern River Gas Transmission Company; and BHE Renewables. Together in 2014, these companies have annual revenues of more than $17.4 billion derived from assets in excess of $80 billion.
MidAmerican Energy Company provides electric service to 739,000 customers and natural gas service to 719,000 customers across a 10,600 square mile service territory in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and South Dakota. In Illinois, MidAmerican Energy Company produces and distributes electricity and acquires and sells natural gas in Rock Island, Henry, Mercer and Whiteside counties. This service area also includes the Quad-Cities area (Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa, and Rock Island, Moline and East Moline, Illinois) with a population of more than 350,000. MidAmerican Energy is a 25 percent owner of Quad-Cities Generating Station near Cordova in Rock Island County, which is jointly owned with Exelon Generation. Cordova also is home to a combined-cycle natural gas-fueled generating plant owned by BHE Renewables.
MidAmerican Energy Company has completed and is still constructing major wind energy projects in Iowa. By year-end 2015, MidAmerican Energy will have 3,335 megawatts of wind generation capacity. MidAmerican Energy is the No. 1 owner of wind-powered generation among rate-regulated U.S. utilities.
